It's a cliche, but it's true: Beauty is pain. We wax, pluck, wear five inch heels, get our ears pierced, use facial cleanser that stings, etc.--all for beauty. But is all of this grooming actually necessary? Yes!
It only takes three seconds to form a first impression, reports a study from Psychology Today. Not worried about making a first impression? A study from the Med Guru reveals that when you look good, you also feel good. Taking care of your outward appearance also determines how others perceive you and the level of respect you will receive. Think of Anna Wintour, a well respected and successful magazine editor. If she never plucked her eyebrows or fixed her hair, would you respect her?
You don't have to be a total dimepiece to look beautiful. A little grooming can go a long way, and a little grooming in the hair removal department is necessary. Unibrows are not attractive and neither are hairy legs.
So, how much is this beauty grooming going to hurt? Not too much.
- Razor. Since I'm not a fan of body hair, I shave my legs and underarms every single day! It doesn't necessarily hurt to shave, but it can if you accidentally cut yourself! Get shaving cream to avoid knicks. You can also get ingrown hairs, which can really hurt. To avoid getting ingrown hairs, simply shave in the same direction that your hair grows.
- Tweezers. I pluck my eyebrows at least once a week. Tweezing can hurt, but I find that it helps if you hold down the area of skin around the hair that you are plucking.
- Hair Removal Cream. Speaking candidly, most of us have unsightly hair above our upper lips, especially dark haired beauties. Hair Removal Cream is an excellent way to get rid of it, and I use it about twice a month. In my experience, hair removal cream does not work on legs or underarms, but try it for yourself to see if it works for you. If you have sensitive skin or if you leave the cream on too long, it can really start to burn. Avoid this by following the directions carefully.
- Wax. By far the most painful way to get rid of unwanted body hair, waxing really hurts. If you're getting a bikini wax, my only advice is to bring a pillow to squeeze and brace yourself for the pain. Waxing is one of the most effective methods, and the hair that was waxed actually grows back thinner.
