Your Valentine's Day Wishlist is Here

Valentine's Day is right around the corner, and Beauty and the Budget is here to help you whittle away your check-off list. Whether you're single or taken, you've probably already narrowed down your V-Day plans. And if you've been keeping up with Ms. B and I, you already know how to be sexy, what beauty products you need to fit your sweet or sexy side, and you've gotten lots of celebrity makeup inspiration. Now let's take a look at a few V-Day must-haves for your evening out.

I have quite a love affair with pink and red, especially when it's paired together. In what used to be a huge fashion faux pas, mixing pink and red together has become quite doable over the last few years. That's why these Velvet-Bow D'Orsay Pumps ($35.50 at Charlotte Russe) are the perfect addition to your ensemble.

If you're looking to channel your sexy side, these Jenny Jenny Tassel Earrings ($42.00 at farfetch.com) have a boudoir vibe. And who can forget the perfect scent to emulate a romantic evening? Opt for Philosophy Love Sweet Love ($42.00 by philosophy at Sephora).

See the rest of the essentials below, and click on styles for more details.

What are you planning for Valentine's Day?

Ghouls Just Wanna Have Fun: 10 Stylish Ways to Get Into the Halloween Spirit

There's nothing wrong with a little pre-partying before Halloween. I'm always opting for a bit of an edgier style when Halloween rolls around. I want the spikes, the studded pumps, crimson red, and feather embellishments, and the cravings for these gems don't go away until much after Halloween.

When looking for the perfect Halloween inspired gems, Alexander McQueen is the first designer to come to mind when sourcing for inspiration. I couldn't get enough of his skull clutches, more specifically the Alexander McQueen Chained Dagger Skull Knucklebox Clutch ($2,930.00 at Zappos Couture). But, well, did you see the price tag? I'd rather put that money towards my student loans. (But if you do own one of his skull clutches, I totally envy you!) Nonetheless, the more affordable designer, Betsey Johnson, is next in line. Betsey Johnson has long designed edgy yet girly accessories, like the Betsey Johnson Crystal Skull Drop Earrings ($40.00 by Betsey Johnson at Dillard's).

Lace is the October fabric of choice for its somewhat romantic yet gothic appearance. Recently, I bought the Two-Tone Lace Dress ($22.80) at Forever 21, and it completely fulfilled my Halloween inspired fashion cravings. Furthermore, it's a year-round classic.

Whether you're inspired by the Adam's Family or feel like channeling Dracula, get into the Halloween spirit with these fashionable finds!

How Much Do You Spend Updating Your Wardrobe for the New Season?

Even though I never go on a big shopping spree, I feel like I spend way too much updating my seasonal wardrobes in small increments. Twenty dollars here, thirty dollars there... oh, and some new shoes! Perhaps I get a bit carried away...

In a poll from Yahoo! 40 percent of readers indicated that they hardly spend anything on updating their wardrobes while 24 percent of readers spent less than $100. Yet even though I'm all for affordable fashion, when you spend, say, 20 dollars a week, it quickly adds up. Maybe I don't do a big wardrobe update--like spend $300 on coats and cardigans for the upcoming fall season. But I do add small updates (a jacket here, a sweater there) at least twice a month.

And you know what? For a budget fashion blogger, I don't even allot myself a clothing allowance. Jeez, how terrible is that?!

If you have any suggestions on how I can budget my clothing allowance, please let me know in the comments below! Otherwise, tell me:

How to Launder Inexpensive Clothing for Longer Use

When I buy something from a fast fashion retailer and it says "dry clean only," I laugh. Why would I ever spend $4 on dry cleaning a $15 dress? It just isn't logical. Of course, the care instructions are there to serve a specific purpose for your garment to last as long as possible, but I've found a less expensive alternative that I'd like to share with you today.

The old adage "You get what you pay for" is entirely true. You can't expect a $7.50 pencil skirt to last forever, but you can make sure that you properly care for it so that you can stretch out your use of the garment. No matter what the care instructions for your garment are, you can care for inexpensive clothing by following these three guidelines:

  1. Always wash on the lowest setting, like extra delicate. If the garment has lots of beaded detailing or lace embroidery (basically anything that might get caught on something in the wash and rip), you should hand wash it as an extra precaution. Most of the time, I still throw it in the wash anyway. Call me reckless. Call me a risktaker.
  2. Always hang or lay flat to dry, even if it's just a plain cotton shirt. It's such a bummer when your cute oversized top fits like a kid's tank top after being thrown in the dryer. From my personal experience, I can tell you that cheap clothes usually always shrink in the dryer!
  3. Iron with extreme caution! Lightweight fabrics, like chiffon, will burn by an iron. If you have a steamer, use it! Otherwise, iron on the lowest setting or throw a towel over the garment and then iron over it. It's just as effective either way.

**Beauty and the Budget does not assume responsibility for garments damaged if these care guidelines are followed, but she is pretty sure you can replace that $10.50 dress.

Are you nervous about breaking out your summer wear because you still haven't lost those extra ten pounds you gained over the holidays? (Or just in the last two weeks... Insert nervous laugh.) Even if you feel like you're moving up a clothing size, there's still a way you can disguise that extra weight until you finally fulfill your New Year's Resolution of getting a gym membership. The best part about it: You don't have the lift a finger! These key pieces are naturally figure flattering for almost every body type! So enjoy life until you finally get that burst of motivation you need to go to the gym.

  1. Black and White Combo: Wearing all black is slimming, but that extra pop of white adds just enough contrast to make the look interesting.
  2. Wrap Dress: This style dress looks great on everyone, and it gets a few bonus points for comfort.
  3. Color Blocking: Don't shy away from color to make yourself look thinner. Colorblocking is a great way to accent your waist, and it even works well in those with a little extra in the midsection. A colorful belt adds a nice touch!
  4. Wide Leg Pants: Skinny jeans can be horrendous on the wrong body type, usually on the pear shaped ladies. Thankfully, you can rejoice because wide leg pants are in! They are perfect for creating a long, straight line from the hip to the foot.
  5. An Interesting Neckline: A detailed neckline will draw the eyes away from your problem areas, like your hips and midsection. You can opt for a plunging neckline to a draped or ruffled neckline. Basically anything with eyecatching details will work! See how flattering this dress looks on these different body types!

Unique vs. Cheap Chic

I have been obsessed with this 3-D Mesh Jumper since the beginning of this year when I first spotted it on Lookbook.nu. It's a really great piece from American Apparel, and even though it's a bit pricey, I still think it's worth the money. However, I still can't bring myself to spend $90 on a sweater. I was hoping it would be on sale by now, but I am beginning to think it's too beautiful to be a mark down. Nonetheless, I still find myself debating on whether or not to buy it...

And when you look at all of the other great pieces you can get for the same price, it's makes the decision even more difficult.

Which choice do you prefer?

Sears Revamps Clothing by Teaming up with French Connection

Finally! Someone has rescued the Sears clothing department. Now it is not only a great place to buy appliances, but you can actually find decent clothes via their collaboration with French Connection.

UK Style is the latest brand at Sears and is designed by French Connection. It's a rather unique collaboration--I certainly wouldn't have imagined it--but it turned out quite nicely. Now you can finally get those French Connection basic satin one shoulder tops and printed dresses at a decent price. Featuring items under $75, it's certainly beauty and the budget friendly, and it's just in time for spring.

The advertisements for the collection are spot on, but I was still skeptical of fashion from Sears. So I checked out their online store and found some cute pieces for you to savor! Do you love it?

Nautical by Nature

Anna Dello Russo was (of course) right on the mark with her recent "It's all about Sailor" blog post. Nautical styles are showing up everywhere, including some of my favorite stores.

The sailor look brings to mind two decades, the 40s and the 90s. My first thought was Amber's scene in Clueless where she's wearing a red nautical inspired suit and a sailor hat. ("Mr. Hall, how can I answer that? The topic is Haiti and she's talking about some little party," she says, after Cher's infamous speech on whether or not Haitians should be allowed to seek refuge in America.) Then I also think of the 40s, in which the nautical styles from the military filtered into women's fashion.

My sartorial mind got to wondering if the latest sailor styles would be revamped into classier, more up to date silhouettes. To me, nautical fashion can be hit or miss, and furthermore, it tends to go out of fashion extremely fast. But for all of you trendsters and fast-fashion lovers, you'll love some of the latest nautical styles that I've found. Some are playful while others are classics. I particularly love Forever 21's classic nautical pieces, but I am a little bias. And even though it isn't summer yet, it's never too early to get nautical by nature!

Do you love the nautical look?

Above, from left to right, top to bottom:  Nautical Cord And Twisted Metal Wristband ($10.34 at Asos); Nautical Button Shorts ($17.80 at Forever 21); Anchors away brooch ($28.00 at Madewell); Nautical Knit Sweater ($22.80 at Forever 21); Striped Sweater Top ($13.50 at Forever 21); Naughty Monkey - Captain Flats ($49.95 at Zappos).
