It is often that trends are revamped and revised from prior decades. In fact, sometimes these resurfaced trends are the basis of a season's most popular styles. So I wasn't too surprised when the bell bottoms, maxi dresses, and whimsical prints that were popular in the 70s resurfaced on the Spring/Summer 2011 runways. But I was a little disappointed that this decade was being revived.
The 70s styles have their hits and misses. I love maxi dresses, but I'm not ready to trade in my skinnies for bell bottoms. Mostly, I'm just ready to see something new and imaginative on the runways. We've revived every decade dating back to the 20s. It's time for us to create something new. I'm ready for a fashion awakening. It was monumental when Dior created New Look in the 50s. Will we ever see something new like that again or have we created everything under the sun already?
On the runways we saw bell bottoms, maxi skirts and dresses, floppy hats, and wild prints in some of the collections. I love the floppy hats and big sunglasses that were popular during the 70s. I'm also a fan of most of the 70s prints. However, I questioned the fabulousness of the Marc Jacobs and Topshop pieces (see below). Who knows, maybe next summer I'll be ready to rock a pair of bell bottoms, but for now, I'm not so sure.
Below are some 70s styles that were spotted on the runway.

Whether bell bottoms come back in style or if skinnies are here to stay, I want to know your opinion of the 70s revival: Love it or Loathe it?

I have been into the 70s look lately, I guess I am sort of jumping the gun on that one.. However, I am not particularly a fan of any of these looks, save for the first one, which is alright. I think we should embrace the shapes presented by 70s era clothing, but not be quite so literal. Like Exposed Envy points out fashion is heading in a more classy, ladylike direction. Which I like, and think we should stick with.
